It has strong antibacterial activity against a variety of Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria. Pasteurella haemolyticus, Pasteurella multocida and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae were highly sensitive to florfenicol. In vitro, florfenicol has similar or stronger antibacterial activity than thiamphenicol against many microorganisms.
