Organic matter in swimming pools, tends to harbour algae, and copper sulphate has the ability to curb the growth of algae. Also, the copper ions dissolved in the water bind to the proteins inside the bacterial cells, thus killing the bacteria.
Copper Sulphate can be used to kill fungi, and most fungi can be killed with only a very low concentration of copper sulphate.
Adding the right amount of Copper Sulphate to a swimming pool is reasonable and will not cause too much harm to the human body. The national standard for Copper Sulphate added to swimming pools is 0.25 to 0.5 mg/litre. Within this limit, Copper Sulphate is safe for humans.
If Copper Sulphate is used, its maximum dosage should not exceed 1.0 mg/litre.…
