Barcode Scanning
Deutsche Post Leitcode is used by the German postal system (Deutsche Post AG [DHL]) to specify the destination for mail. It is a variant of the Interleaved 2 of 5 symbology.
Symbol Structure
The symbol comprises the following elements:
Leading quiet zone
Start pattern (narrow bar, narrow space, narrow bar, narrow space)
One or more pairs of symbol characters that represent data (including an optional check digit)
Stop pattern (wide bar, narrow space, narrow bar)
Trailing quiet zone
Deutsche Post Leitcode encodes a string of 14 digits, as follows:
Five-digit postal code
Three-digit street identifier
Three-digit house number
Two-digit product code
One-digit check digit
Deutsche Post Leitcode imposes a format on the human readable interpretation that includes periods (which are not part of the barcode symbol).
