Barcode Scanning
Optical Product Code (OPC) is a variant of Interleaved 2 of 5. It has also been known as Vision Council of America (VCA) barcode. This symbology is used to mark optical retail products, such as eyeglasses, to identify the product and its manufacturer.
OPC is defined in The Optical Product Code (OPC) Guide for Lenses document that is maintained by The Vision Council.
Symbol Structure
The symbol comprises the following elements:
Leading quiet zone
Five digits that identify the manufacturer, as assigned by The Vision Council
Four digits that identify the product, as assigned by the manufacturer
One mandatory check digit
Trailing quiet zone
Character Set
This symbology supports all numeric digits (0-9).
Check Digit
OPC uses a check digit that is based on the modulo 10 (mod 10) algorithm.
